Janet Holson-Mazzer – Ceramic Artist

I was born in Sudbury, Ontario, Canada. In 1984, I moved to Toronto to study Accounting & Finance.

After completing my business studies, I worked in this field for 10 years. In 1993, I returned to school to study Ceramic Art & Technology since this was what I truly longed for in my life.

After graduating from the Ceramic Art & Design Program at George Brown College in 1995, I formed a studio with a classmate. I began developing my own style which in I intentionally left a defined spiral as a trademark in my thrown wares representing the circle of life. My functional work is profoundly influenced by Japanese ceramics both in my choice of glazes as well as the work itself. I am attracted to the simplicity of these vessels.

My current work is made from porcelain and is both made on a potter’s wheel as well as made with slabs. All work of my work is made with lead free glazes and is both dishwasher and microwave safe.
I maintain my studio is in Midland, Ontario and my line of functional tableware can be found throughout galleries and shops in the Ontario area.
I am a member of both the Ontario Crafts Council and Fusion: The Ontario Clay & Glass Association. My work can also be seen online at www.studiocrafts.com, www.craft.on.ca, www.clayandglass.on.ca and www.jansonpottery.com.

In October of 2002, my functional work was featured on Sue Warden Craftscapes on the Home & Garden Television Network.
In winter of 2004, I was also featured on Sue Warden’s Creative Spirit.
